During the World Future Energy Summit, Sheikh Alima, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to investing in clean and renewable energy.Alima revealed to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that in 2018, the UAE’s solar power generation capacity was 2 gigawatts (1 gigawatt = 1 billion watts), which has now increased to 6 gigawatts, with plans to raise it to approximately 14.2 gigawatts by 2030.He noted that this growth reflects the economic viability of renewable energy and its projects, and shows that significant progress has been made in large-scale renewable energy projects. He further stressed that the UAE is driving the diversification of its energy mix and implementing several major projects to achieve this goal, with the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Power Plant project being particularly prominent, expected to generate about 5,600 megawatts of environmentally friendly electricity.

As part of the 2021 Energy Strategy, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has established a national energy and water demand management team, which has successfully reduced energy and water consumption by about 13% in the agriculture, construction, industry, and transportation sectors. Alima also mentioned that several electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects have been initiated to reduce emissions in the transportation sector.Alima also noted that the cabinet has approved the establishment of a new company in collaboration with the Federal Electricity and Water Authority to expand the electric vehicle charging network. In addition, in partnership with the private sector, 422 federal government buildings will be renovated or newly constructed to reduce energy and water consumption by 30%, including health, educational, and administrative buildings, thereby enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.trina solar panels
