According to a report on the Engineering News website in South Africa on March 5, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) released a report stating that South Africa is expected to become the world’s tenth largest photovoltaic market in 2024, with the dominance of solar photovoltaics in the country set to continue growing. Eskom, the national electricity company of South Africa, estimates that the total additional installed capacity of rooftop solar energy in South Africa will reach 2.6 gigawatts in 2023.

In 2024, the installation of rooftop solar in South Africa is expected to further increase, particularly in May, June, and July, when electricity load shedding will be more frequent and severe.

The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) points out that since the beginning of 2023, solar projects registered with the national energy regulator in South Africa have totaled 4.3 gigawatts.

BNEF expects that South Africa’s installed capacity will range from 4 to 4.5 gigawatts in 2024, reaching approximately 36 gigawatts by 2030."trina solar panels
